The Diversity Section mentoring program is designed to help foster a more collegial bar and aid Diversity Section members by matching attorneys who have questions in a specific area with an experienced attorney. It is our hope that this program will provide guidance to those who seek it and will grow in scope and outreach over the years.

Program Description. The Diversity Section mentoring program is open to all Diversity Section members. The mentoring program will match members seeking a mentor with someone specializing or having experience in a desired field. There will be two types of mentoring pairings offered: those seeking monthly contact for one year; and those seeking a shorter-term contact regarding a more specific inquiry. The longer-term program will match mentors with mentees for one year and is designed to help an attorney navigate the legal profession.

Full-time Program. The full-time program requires a minimum one-year commitment including a monthly meeting with the assigned mentee and attendance at four quarterly meetings for all mentors and mentees. The Diversity Section is hosting a holiday gathering on December 12 to kick off our new mentoring program, inform members of the bar about our section’s many activities, and to spread the holiday cheer. If you are interested in joining the Diversity Section or learning more about our mentoring program or other activities please join us. Details for the event can be found on our website, available at: www.idahodiversitylaw.com. The first quarterly meeting for the mentoring program will be held in mid-January 2009. Initial quarterly meetings will be brainstorming sessions to discuss what is working and ways to improve our program. Subsequent quarterly meetings may provide CLE credit presentations. The format of the mentor/mentee monthly meetings is completely up to you. Pairings are not set in stone and if for any reason you would prefer a different mentor or mentee, we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Short-term Program. The short-term program requires commitment for one or two contacts. Although the short-term program is designed to offer advice on a narrower scope than the full-time program, it is not case specific. This means that the short-term program is not for help with a specific case that you may be working on, but rather is intended to provide an opportunity to get to know other members of the Diversity Section and explore career paths or other discrete inquiries.

Topic-Specific Mentoring (for the Full-Time Program). Read the brief bios of our mentors and get involved as a mentor or join our program as a mentee. If you would like a mentor in a subject that is not covered by one of our current mentors, please contact us and we will attempt to meet your request.
