Members, old and new!

As Chair of the Diversity Section of the Idaho State Bar, let me welcome you and thank you for joining our group for 2011!   We are still developing our mentoring program, as well as the PipeLine project. Interested? We’d be glad to have you work on this Committee!

We are looking to our members and interesting Idahoans for short (half hour) CLE programs addressing diversity issues in the profession and in society generally to be held during our regular meetings. Jim Cook of Idaho Legal Aid in Boise is our vice chair and has the responsibility of organizing our CLEs during the year, including these programs. We would very much appreciate your ideas and invite you to contact Jim at jimcook@idaholegalaid.org. Jim organized a great half day ethics CLE held this past December in Boise, that included a stimulating discussion of judicial elections and the recent US Supreme Court decision, Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission and views from the bench on diversity. Last summer at the state Bar meeting in Idaho Falls, we put on a fascinating session on Indian law and relations with Idaho’s tribal nations. These are typical of the breadth and quality of the CLEs the section produces.

Mark your calendar NOW for one very important project on the agenda for 2011: the 200 th Anniversary of the Bill of Rights! Together with the University of Idaho College of Law, the Diversity Section is sponsoring a seminar in Moscow and Boise September 14-16, 2011, to explore the impact of the Bill of Rights past, present and future. We look forward to your support and involvement! Become a sponsor now and get special acknowledgment, meet outstanding scholars and obtain CLE credit besides. Just contact me about this, lpall@moscow.com, to get more information and become involved!

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to be involved with any of our ongoing projects or if you have an exciting idea for something the Section should consider!

Currently, the Diversity Section meets the fourth Friday of each month at the Idaho State Bar offices.  We also encourage members from all over Idaho to participate by telephone if they are unable to be at the meetings in person.

We look forward to hearing from you soon! Again, welcome to the 2011 Diversity Section!

Sincerely,

Linda Pall, J.D., Ph.D.
